The Florida Panthers achieved victory over the New York Rangers, earning their second straight appearance in the Stanley Cup Final.
Although the Panthers reached the final last year, they fell short. This year, they made a commitment to focus only on the Stanley Cup, ignoring the Prince of Wales Trophy.
Sergei Bobrovsky’s outstanding performance with 23 saves, and goals from Sam Bennett and Vladimir Tarasenko, led the Panthers to triumph.
Bennett remarked that they didn't touch the trophy last year and it didn't bring success, so they are trying a new approach this year.
The Panthers managed to eliminate the regular-season champion, a feat they accomplished last year against Boston. Despite a rally from the Rangers, they ultimately emerged victorious.
Matthew Tkachuk mentioned that it is hard to play against them and it requires a lot of effort. He reflected on their hard work from the start and the special feeling of returning after last year’s loss.
Artemi Panarin scored a late goal to keep the Rangers' hopes alive, but Igor Shesterkin's 32 saves couldn't stop the Panthers from winning.
Coach Paul Maurice highlighted that the players' ability, not his own efforts, are the key to success. This marks his third finals appearance as he aims for his first Stanley Cup victory.
The Panthers have become the 15th franchise to reach consecutive finals and will compete against either Edmonton or Dallas in the championship series.
Bobrovsky, renowned for his performances against top-ranked teams, played a decisive role in the Rangers' elimination.
Rangers coach Peter Laviolette expressed disappointment, mentioning that the goal isn’t just to win a few playoff games.
