Colorado Avalanche News & Updates

Brock Nelson netted two goals in a span of 2:49 during the second period, helping the New York Islanders achieve a 6-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night.

Nelson's scores followed earlier goals by Anthony Duclair, Kyle Palmieri, and Anders Lee, establishing a 3-1 advantage for the Islanders. Mathew Barzal also found the net for New York.

Calum Ritchie celebrated his first NHL goal and Casey Mittelstadt also scored for Colorado, which has started the season with three consecutive losses.

Ilya Sorokin stopped 32 shots for the Islanders, while Alexandar Georgiev also recorded 32 saves for the Avalanche.

Following a 3-0 shutout defeat in Dallas on Saturday night, the Islanders showed strong resolve.

Despite Georgiev's improved performance for Colorado, his errors contributed to the first two goals scored by New York.

A significant moment occurred when Cale Makar's errant pass was intercepted by Nelson, leading to a short-handed goal for New York while Colorado was on the power play.

The Islanders now hold a 2-1-0 record, whereas the Avalanche stand at 0-3-0.
