In Pittsburgh, Sidney Crosby shone by scoring a goal and providing an assist, leading the Penguins to a 4-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes in a game that marked Jake Guentzel's return to his old team.
Bryan Rust and Jesse Puljujarvi also contributed goals for Pittsburgh. Despite being outshot by Carolina 31-14 in the final two periods, the Penguins secured the win.
This season saw Crosby netting his 35th goal, establishing him as the only currently active player and the 14th in NHL history to accomplish more than 15 seasons with at least 40 assists. Pittsburgh's goal was fiercely guarded by Alex Nedeljkovic, who made 38 saves.
For Carolina, Orlov found the back of the net, halting a streak of seven games with at least a point. Pyotr Kochetkov, in goal for Carolina, made 18 saves.
Having traded Guentzel to Carolina in March, his return to Pittsburgh was met with a warm welcome, inclusive of a prolonged standing ovation and a tribute video, to which Guentzel responded with a salute and applause.
With the season progressing, Pittsburgh faces the challenge of potentially missing the playoffs for the second year in a row. Meanwhile, Carolina is close to securing its sixth straight playoff appearance.
Looking ahead, the Hurricanes are set to host the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday, while the Penguins will welcome the Columbus Blue Jackets the same day.
