Phoenix Suns News & Updates

Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia is considering the idea of reintroducing hockey to Arizona, according to Sportico.

Arizona lost its NHL team when the Coyotes moved to Salt Lake City. The team will rebrand for the 2025-26 season but will operate as the Utah Hockey Club this year. Ishbia has shown interest in helping to revive hockey in Arizona, indicating his willingness to explore ways to make it happen. He also owns the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA.

Ishbia has invested in a new $100 million practice facility for women, located near Footprint Center, where the WNBA All-Star Game was recently held. He mentioned the potential need for a new arena while commending the existing one.

The Coyotes played at the 5,000-seat Mullett Arena from 2022 to 2024. Sportico notes that Ishbia has not revealed any talks with the NHL, and the league has not commented on the situation. Should hockey return to Arizona, it is expected that the new arena would be constructed in downtown Phoenix.
