Pierre-Luc Dubois' goals from a year ago have faded away.
Following his trade request from Winnipeg to Los Angeles, Dubois signed a $68 million contract, expecting to play a crucial role with the Kings.
Yet, Dubois experienced a lackluster season and was subsequently traded to the Washington Capitals for Darcy Kuemper.
Dubois, now 26 years old, has been traded three times since 2021. While his previous trades were at his behest, this latest move requires him to adapt to a new team.
He remarked that teams act in their own best interest, adding that he would use this as motivation for the upcoming season.
Dubois' underwhelming performance, tallying just 40 points, prompted a shift in his drive. Kings' general manager Rob Blake acknowledged that Dubois wasn't utilized properly.
The trade gives Dubois a chance for redemption as part of the Capitals' latest effort to rejuvenate players, similar to Dylan Strome's resurgence. Dubois and Strome will now join forces and challenge each other.
Dubois is determined to regain his past form, having scored 27 goals or more in three seasons. He holds potential to become a top player, according to Capitals' GM Brian MacLellan.
Dubois expressed his excitement after his initial conversation with MacLellan, noting their eagerness for his contribution to the team.
