Montreal Canadiens News & Updates

In a remarkable display of skill, Montreal Canadiens' goaltender Cayden Primeau saved 41 shots, leading to a convincing 3-0 triumph over the Columbus Blue Jackets on a Tuesday evening.

The game's excitement began almost immediately, with Brendan Gallagher scoring within the first 21 seconds. He was quickly followed by goals from Jurai Slafkovsky and Joshua Roy, overwhelming Blue Jackets' goaltender Elvis Merzlikins and resulting in his replacement by Daniil Tarasov before even six minutes had elapsed.

This season has witnessed Primeau achieving his second shutout, his first during a commanding 5-0 victory against Anaheim. This latest win represents a rare moment of success for Montreal, being only their second win in regulation time across twelve matches.

Despite the relentless pressure of 22 shots in the first period alone, Primeau's exceptional goaltending kept the opposition scoreless. Coach Martin St. Louis praised Primeau for his vigilance and the team's concerted effort to play a disciplined game.

Following the trade of Jake Allen, Primeau, who is now serving as the backup to Sam Montembeault, expressed his enthusiasm for more opportunities to prove himself and emphasized his focus on maintaining a consistent performance level in every game.

Although the Blue Jackets had more control in the second period, they were unable to break through Primeau's defense. The Canadiens managed to maintain their lead and secure the victory into the final period. Next, the Blue Jackets will play against Ottawa on Thursday, the same night the Canadiens will go up against Boston.
