Philadelphia Flyers News & Updates

Following a year-long anticipation, 19-year-old winger Matvei Michkov has finally penned an entry-level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Michkov, selected as the seventh pick in the 2023 NHL draft, announced his departure from the Russian KHL club SKA St. Petersburg in June.

As the Flyers' most promising prospect in North America, Michkov is anticipated to become a top-line winger and a valuable asset on the power play.

Flyers general manager Daniel Briere shared his enthusiasm regarding Michkov’s inclusion, highlighting his remarkable talent and potential.

Prior to signing with the Flyers, Michkov played one game for SKA and spent the rest of the 2023-24 season on loan at HK Sochi, where he tallied 19 goals and 41 points in 47 games.

He joins the ranks of homegrown talents such as Joel Farabee, Noah Cates, Morgan Frost, and Cam York, all drafted by the Flyers and now playing in the NHL.

Michkov's signing aligns with the Flyers' ambition to build on their advancements under coach John Tortorella, having finished just five points shy of the playoffs in the 2023-24 season.

Michkov conveyed his gratitude for the Flyers' confidence in him and his determination to fulfill their expectations.
