In Tempe, Jonathan Quick, celebrated as a three-time Stanley Cup victor, set the new record for the most wins by an American-born goalie. This milestone was reached when the New York Rangers triumphed over the Arizona Coyotes with a score of 8-5, marking Quick's 392nd career win.
This victory allowed Quick to overtake Ryan Miller's previously held record. Following the game, Quick shared his feelings of relief and pride over this personal achievement, but underscored the team's overarching aim to clinch the division and conference titles.
Alexis Lafreniere, selected first in the 2020 draft, played a pivotal role in the Rangers' victory by scoring three times and assisting on two other goals. Artemi Panarin also contributed with an empty-netter, increasing his season totals to 44 goals and 63 assists.
A decisive moment came in the third period when the Rangers netted three goals to take command of the match. Even as Arizona closed the gap to 6-5, Panarin's additional empty-net goal guaranteed the Rangers' victory.
With this win, the Rangers, who are at the top of the NHL standings, extended their win streak to five games and have now posted a record of 20-4-1 since February. Quick lauded the team's dedication and adaptability in securing wins under varied circumstances.
Ryan Lindgren's performance was also noteworthy, as he scored a goal and assisted on two others, contributing to the Rangers' success. For the Coyotes, goals came from Matias Maccelli, Clayton Keller, Nick Bjugstad, Lawson Crouse, and Logan Cooley.
Jacob Trouba made a comeback to the ice after missing 11 games due to a lower body injury.
