Even with the game nearly in hand during regulation time, the Rangers gave up a goal to Svechnikov. This was a result of a shot by Brady Skjei bouncing off Sebastian Aho's stick, creating an opportunity for Svechnikov to score past Adam Fox and Igor Shesterkin.
The defeat extends Carolina's run of narrow playoff losses to eight, including the last two in overtime, leaving team captain Jordan Staal expressing his disappointment at the team's continued misfortune.
