Vancouver Canucks News & Updates

Rick Tocchet was honored as the NHL's top coach for guiding the Vancouver Canucks to their second postseason appearance in nine years and securing the Pacific Division title.

Out of 114 votes, Tocchet garnered 82 for first place and was named on 109 ballots, making him the third coach from the Canucks to receive the prestigious Jack Adams Award. Runners-up included Andrew Brunette from Nashville and Rick Bowness from Winnipeg, who took third place just before he retired.

During his inaugural full season with Vancouver, Tocchet led the squad to a remarkable 50-23-9 record, marking the third highest number of victories in the team's history. The Canucks were notable for their leading NHL plus-38 goal differential in the first period and an impressive 42-1-4 record when ahead after the second period.

Tocchet's final 30 games coaching during the preceding season laid the groundwork for implementing his successful strategy and setting up Vancouver for this season's achievements. His coaching background includes time with Arizona and Tampa Bay.

As a former player, Tocchet clinched a Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 1992, and later as an assistant coach, he was part of winning teams in 2016 and 2017.
