Arizona Coyotes News & Updates

The Tucson Roadrunners, the Arizona Coyotes' AHL affiliate, will remain in their current city for a minimum of 30 games next season.

This move halts former owner Alex Meruelo's intention to relocate the team to Mullett Arena in Tempe.

The decision by the Rio Nuevo District's board of directors was unanimous, preventing the AHL's board of governors from approving a potential move.

Although Meruelo sold the Coyotes to the Smith family, who plan to relocate that team to Salt Lake City, he kept ownership of the Roadrunners. He had originally aimed to transfer them to Mullett Arena, previously the Coyotes' temporary venue.

While the Roadrunners may still play a few games at Mullett Arena, this is a far cry from Meruelo's original plan.
