In a recent match, rookie Jackson Blake celebrated his first NHL goal, while Pyotr Kochetkov delivered an impressive performance with 23 saves in his season opener, helping the Carolina Hurricanes secure a 4-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday.
Contributing to Carolina's win were Seth Jarvis, Shayne Gostisbehere, and Sebastian Aho, marking the team's second game after an earlier defeat. For the Devils, Jake Hughes and Nico Hischier found the back of the net, bringing an end to their two-game winning streak.
During the third period, Blake redirected a shot from Dmitry Orlov to widen Carolina's advantage. Although Hughes initially put the Devils ahead, the Hurricanes mounted a comeback, scoring four times in the final 30 minutes.
Carolina successfully defended a crucial penalty in the third period after Hischier's goal, maintaining their lead. This was a notable improvement after conceding two power-play goals in their season opener. Jesperi Kotkaniemi marked his 100th career point with an assist on Gostisbehere's goal, and Aho found the net with an empty goal in his milestone 600th game.
Looking ahead, the Devils are set to play at Ottawa on Thursday, while the Hurricanes will embark on a six-game journey beginning with a match in Pittsburgh on Friday.
