Washington Capitals News & Updates

Ryan Leonard has decided not to participate in the playoffs with the Washington Capitals and instead will continue his education and hockey career at Boston College for his second year.

Brian MacLellan, the general manager, announced that Leonard, a highly regarded prospect, opted to spend another season in NCAA hockey before progressing to the NHL.

MacLellan praised Leonard for his outstanding leadership qualities and significant development in his freshman year, noting that he set a new record for the most points by a freshman at Boston College.

Despite rumors that Leonard might reconsider, he has chosen to stay with Boston College.

Leonard, selected eighth in the 2023 NHL Draft, accumulated 60 points over 41 games in his freshman season, playing a key role in Boston College's journey to the Frozen Four.

Leonard looks forward to playing alongside his teammates Will Smith and Gabe Perreault once again, aiming for a national title.

Meanwhile, Cutter Gauthier, who was outstanding at the world junior championship and a contender for the Hobey Baker Award, has entered into a contract with the Anaheim Ducks and is slated to make his debut in their season's final game on Thursday.
