The Buffalo Sabres have finalized a trade with the Edmonton Oilers, acquiring forward Ryan McLeod, a seasoned NHL player who played a key role in Edmonton's journey to the Stanley Cup Final. In return, they sent their top prospect, Matthew Savoie, to the Oilers.
McLeod, who netted four goals in 24 playoff games, will join the Sabres alongside minor league player Tyler Tullio. Edmonton will receive the 20-year-old center, Savoie.
In addition to the trade, the Sabres signed defenseman Henri Jokiharju to a one-year deal worth $3.1 million. McLeod's salary for the upcoming season is set at $2.1 million.
Despite acquiring McLeod, the Sabres continue to face a prolonged playoff drought, which has now reached 13 years, the longest in the NHL.
Matthew Savoie, who was the ninth overall pick in the 2022 draft, made his NHL debut in November but has only logged one game at this level. He spent the rest of the last season in junior hockey and the minor leagues.
