Montreal Canadiens News & Updates

Sam Montembeault's flawless performance, with 30 saves, led the Montreal Canadiens to a 3-0 shutout win against Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night.

The Canadiens scored through Brendan Gallagher, Kaiden Guhle, and Jake Evans, who secured the victory with an empty-net goal. This win is their second straight and ties their longest winning streak of the current season.

Having achieved a 48-save shutout in the season's opening match, Montembeault recorded his second shutout of this campaign. Despite Calvin Pickard's 22 saves, the Oilers endured their second consecutive loss following their 4-3 overtime defeat to Toronto.

During the game’s crucial moments, Montembeault blocked a partial breakaway by Jeff Skinner in the third period with a key pad save, prompting "Monty! Monty!" chants from the fans.

The Canadiens stopped the Oilers on all three of their power-play opportunities, highlighting Edmonton's difficulties with the man advantage this season, despite having a potent offense.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins celebrated a significant milestone by playing his 900th NHL game, all with the Oilers. Drafted first overall in 2011, he has accumulated 252 goals and 455 assists during his career.

The Oilers are set to wrap up their three-game road trip in Ottawa on Tuesday, while the Canadiens will face Vegas at home on Saturday.
