Alexander Wennberg's power-play goal at 1:26 of overtime lifted the San Jose Sharks to a 5-4 win against the Utah Hockey Club, giving them their first victory of the season.
Fabian Zetterlund scored twice, with Mikael Granlund and Tyler Toffoli also finding the net for San Jose. Mackenzie Blackwood made 19 saves in goal.
For Utah, Matias Maccelli was a standout with two goals, supported by scores from Dylan Guenther and Mikhail Sergachev. Connor Ingram faced a barrage, stopping 41 shots as his team endured a fourth straight loss.
The Sharks came back from being down by three goals in the third period, equalizing the game with just 2:42 left. Zetterlund and Granlund netted goals within 25 seconds, igniting the turnaround.
The pivotal point of the game was Zetterlund's second goal, which set off a series of late goals for San Jose, resulting in four scores in the final six minutes.
A significant statistic shows that San Jose broke their nine-game winless streak, which included seven losses and two overtime losses, and they avoided setting an unwanted NHL record of beginning consecutive seasons with ten-game winless stretches.
Looking ahead, San Jose is set to start a five-game home series against Los Angeles on Tuesday, while Utah is scheduled to host Calgary on Wednesday.
