San Jose Sharks News & Updates

The San Jose Sharks have successfully acquired Collin Graf, a forward from Quinnipiac University, who is considered the most sought-after NCAA free agent this season.

Graf has agreed to a contract with the Sharks that will commence at the start of the 2023-24 season. His notable skills include excellent awareness on the ice and an outstanding offensive play which Sharks General Manager Mike Grier has highlighted, commending Graf's distinctive abilities.

It is reported that the chance to vie for an NHL roster spot with the Sharks, coupled with the immediate start of his entry-level contract, appealed to Graf and his representatives.

At the age of 21, Graf has showcased his talent as a playmaker, leading his team, the Bobcats, with 49 points over 34 games. His steadfast performance has placed him among the top 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award for two years in a row. Notably, Graf was crucial in securing Quinnipiac's NCAA national championship win in the 2022-23 season by scoring a crucial goal that tied the game in the third period.

Following Quinnipiac's exit in the second round of the 2024 NCAA Div. I tournament, Graf became more determined to pursue an NHL career as a free agent, despite not being selected in the NHL draft.

Several teams, including the New York Rangers, Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights, and Nashville Predators, showed interest in Graf. Nonetheless, it was the Sharks who ultimately succeeded in signing him.

Given the Sharks' current standing with the lowest points percentage (.284) and goal differential (-133) in the NHL and only eight games left in their schedule, Graf is anticipated to get significant playing time immediately upon joining the team.
