Scott Arniel Named as Winnipeg Jets' New Head Coach in a Welcomed Comeback

Friday, May 24th, 2024

Winnipeg Jets News & UpdatesThe Winnipeg Jets, a prominent ice hockey team, have appointed Scott Arniel as their latest head coach. Arniel, a former player for the Winnipeg Jets during the 1980s, brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having already spent the last two years with the team as an associate coach.

In his recent tenure as the interim head coach for 25 games, due to Rick Bowness' absences, Arniel demonstrated his capability by achieving a 15-7-3 record. His journey in coaching has been extensive, including being at the helm of the Columbus Blue Jackets from 2010 to 2012, as well as serving as an assistant coach for the Buffalo Sabres, New York Rangers, and Washington Capitals. He also led the Manitoba Moose of the AHL for four years before his time with the Jets.

As an athlete, Arniel's career was noteworthy. After being selected by the Jets in the 1981 draft, he devoted six seasons to the team and concluded his NHL career with a total of 730 games, which also included periods with the Boston Bruins and Buffalo Sabres.

Despite a recent setback in the playoffs, Kevin Cheveldayoff, the Jets' general manager, is optimistic about the team's future under Arniel's guidance. He believes that the groundwork laid by the coaching staff will propel the team towards further successes.

With Arniel's appointment, the Jets have filled a vital position, leaving only a couple of NHL teams, including the San Jose Sharks and Seattle Kraken, in search of a head coach for the forthcoming season.
