Jack Hughes, the star center for the New Jersey Devils, is scheduled to have surgery on his shoulder that will end his season, as confirmed by the team. This decision follows discussions with Hughes' family, his agents, and the team's medical personnel.
Dr. Peter Millett in Vail, Colorado, will conduct the surgery, with expectations set for Hughes to fully recover in time for the Devils' next training camp in the fall.
This injury to Hughes happens at a critical time for the Devils, who are striving to secure a playoff spot for the second consecutive year. Hughes is at the forefront for the team, having scored 27 goals and accumulated 74 points.
Currently, the Devils are trailing the Detroit Red Wings by five points in the battle for the last wild-card position in the Eastern Conference. The race is tight, with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals, and Buffalo Sabres all within five points of the Red Wings.
