Ottawa Senators News & Updates

In Ottawa on Tuesday night, the Ottawa Senators ended a streak of seven winless games by defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 in overtime.

3:13 into the additional period, Drake Batherson netted the decisive goal with assistance from Jake Sanderson and Tim Stutzle. Despite Michael Bunting's effort to level the game for the Penguins with just 23 seconds left in the final period, their streak of seven losses was extended.

Earlier in the third period, Jake Sanderson scored, granting the Senators their initial lead of the game. The goalkeeping was impressive on both sides, with Ottawa's Joonas Korpisalo making 34 saves and Pittsburgh's Tristan Jarry blocking 37 shots.

An earlier moment of excitement for the Senators saw a goal by Claude Giroux being annulled after the Penguins challenged for goaltender interference successfully.

Ottawa's interim head coach, Jacques Martin, expressed satisfaction with his team's performance, particularly noting their prowess in a match that saw few goals. On the other hand, Penguins coach Mike Sullivan remarked on his team's difficulties in creating scoring opportunities.

Zack Ostapchuk marked his entrance into the NHL with the Senators, taking two shots during his 13 minutes on the ice.

Looking ahead, Ottawa is set to play against Columbus on Thursday, while Pittsburgh will welcome San Jose on the same evening.
