The San Jose Sharks received defenseman Jake Walman and a second-round draft pick from the Detroit Red Wings in return for future considerations.
San Jose not only secured the 53rd overall pick but also took over Walman's three-year contract, which has a cap hit of $3.4 million per season.
Walman appeared in 63 games for Detroit last season, accumulating 12 goals and 9 assists.
The Sharks now possess three second-round picks in this year's draft. They hold the 1st and 14th overall selections as well, giving them five picks within the top 60.
In another transaction, the Red Wings sent forward Jesse Kiiskinen and a second-round pick to the Nashville Predators in exchange for defenseman Andrew Gibson.
Last season, Kiiskinen played for the Lahti Pelicans in Finland, while Gibson competed for Sault Ste. Marie in the Ontario Hockey League.
