Macklin Celebrini, a rookie with the San Jose Sharks and the top selection in the 2024 NHL draft, will remain out of action for a minimum of two more weeks because of a lower-body injury.
Mike Grier, the general manager for the Sharks, provided an update on the timeline for the 18-year-old forward on Monday. Celebrini has not played since he scored a goal and registered an assist during the season's first game against the St. Louis Blues on October 10th.
Celebrini's goal, scored just 7 minutes and 1 second into his debut game, is the second-fastest by a number one draft pick in their inaugural NHL game. Only Mario Lemieux scored faster in his debut match with the Pittsburgh Penguins back in 1984.
Before joining the Sharks, Celebrini spent a year at Boston University, where he was awarded the Hobey Baker Award for the 2023-24 season. He played a key role in guiding the Terriers to the NCAA Frozen Four and tallied 64 points, comprising 32 goals and 32 assists, over 38 games.
