Filip Zadina and Mikael Granlund found the back of the net in quick succession, only 27 seconds apart, propelling the San Jose Sharks to a convincing 4-0 win over the St. Louis Blues. Mackenzie Blackwood was pivotal in net, stopping 35 shots, which helped to end the Sharks' nine-game drought without a win.
Adding to the scoreline for the Sharks were Luke Kunin and Jan Rutta, marking San Jose's second victory over St. Louis this campaign. On the opposing side, Joel Hofer managed to block 16 attempts at goal for the Blues, whose chances of making the playoffs diminished with this loss.
In a period of dominance, the Sharks outperformed the Blues in the second period with a 12-3 shot advantage, netting three goals. Blues captain Brayden Schenn voiced his frustration over the team's inability to secure wins against what he deemed beatable teams, especially with playoff spots on the line.
The deadlock was broken by Zadina in the second period, closely followed by Granlund who doubled the lead. Near the end of the same period, Kunin increased the tally. Despite the Blues outshooting the Sharks 11-3 in the opening period, Blackwood ensured no goals were conceded.
In the last period, Blackwood continued to fend off the Blues' offensive attempts, saving an additional 21 shots. Drew Bannister, the interim coach for the Blues, critiqued the team's lackluster second-period showing, while Sharks' coach David Quinn lauded Blackwood's exceptional performance for keeping them competitive.
Looking ahead, the Sharks are set to play at home against the Seattle Kraken on Monday, and the Blues aim to bounce back when they host the Edmonton Oilers, also on Monday.
