In a game that took place on a Saturday, the NHL imposed a penalty of $2,734.38 on Kevin Shattenkirk of the Boston Bruins for his unsportsmanlike behavior towards Michael Bunting of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The incident occurred during the initial period after Bunting, who wasn't penalized, collided with Bruins' goaltender Linus Ullmark. Following this, it's reported that as Bunting skated past the Boston bench, Shattenkirk hit him with his stick.
This financial penalty, the highest allowable for unsportsmanlike conduct, was announced by the Department of Player Safety. The funds collected from the fine are allocated to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
Notably, the game continued with Shattenkirk scoring a goal. Additionally, Bunting managed to score a goal and provide an assist. Ullmark made 28 saves, leading to a 6-4 win for the Bruins in a match that marked Shattenkirk's return after missing three games.
