Pittsburgh Penguins News & Updates

On Saturday night, Sidney Crosby reached the significant milestone of 600 NHL goals for the Pittsburgh Penguins, becoming the 21st player in league history to achieve this record.

The goal from Crosby occurred during a five-on-three power play with only 10 seconds left in the second period, with Erik Karlsson providing the assist. This marked his seventh goal in the past 12 games and played a role in preventing a shutout for the Penguins.

Even with Crosby's impressive performance, the Penguins were defeated by the Utah Hockey Club with a score of 6-1. Dylan Guenther scored twice for Utah, and Nick Bjugstad, Jack McBain, Mikhail Sergachev, and Alexander Kerfoot each added goals for the visiting team.

Karel Vejmelka had 27 saves for Utah, while Alex Nedeljkovic made 24 saves for Pittsburgh. The win allowed Utah to break a three-game losing streak.

Crosby has now joined Alex Ovechkin as one of just two active players with 600 or more NHL goals. He is the seventh player in NHL history to achieve 600 goals with a single team and the second Penguin to do so, following Mario Lemieux.

Takeaways from the game include Utah ending their losing streak of three games, while Pittsburgh faced their 14th loss out of the last 18 games, conceding at least four goals in six of their previous 10 games.

A pivotal moment in the game was when Nick Bjugstad scored 7:26 after Crosby's milestone, giving Utah a 3-1 lead and turning the game in their favor.

From a statistical perspective, Crosby joins Wayne Gretzky as the only two players in NHL history with at least 600 goals, 1,600 points, three Stanley Cups, and two Conn Smythe trophies.
