Sidney Crosby has agreed to a fresh two-year contract extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins, putting an end to rumors about his future plans.
This new agreement starts in the 2025-26 season and will last until the 2026-27 season, at which point Crosby will be 39 years old.
The contract includes an annual average value of $8.7 million under the NHL salary cap, consistent with the cap hit he has had on past contracts.
Crosby and his team had been negotiating this contract for some time, aware that he had just one year remaining on his current deal. While some believed the term would be shorter and others thought it could extend to four years with an average value exceeding $10 million, Crosby ultimately settled on a two-year deal worth $8.7 million AAV. This decision provides the Penguins with both short-term and long-term flexibility.
The Penguins' captain has steered his team to three Stanley Cup victories and has been awarded the Hart Trophy as the NHL's regular-season MVP twice. He is the leading active player in career points.
According to Penguins GM Kyle Dubas, there are no words sufficient to convey what Sidney Crosby means to hockey, the city of Pittsburgh, and the Penguins organization.
Crosby has expressed his belief that the Penguins can still secure a Stanley Cup with their experienced core, including veterans Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, and Erik Karlsson.
