Boston Bruins News & Updates

In the second period, Jiri Smejkal and Jakob Chychrun led the way with their goals, propelling the Ottawa Senators to a win of 3-1 against the Boston Bruins during the last game of the regular season for both teams this Tuesday.

Artem Zub cemented the victory with a late empty-net goal, and with Anton Forsberg's impressive performance of 34 saves, the Senators were able to break the possibility of being swept in the season series by Boston and dashed the Bruins' aspirations of winning the Atlantic Division title.

Brad Marchand acknowledged that the Bruins did not perform up to mark, particularly in the first and second periods. Despite dominating with 23 shots to Ottawa's 2 in the final period, they were unable to find a way past Forsberg.

This defeat leads Boston to face the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of the playoffs.

Pavel Zacha was the sole scorer for Boston, a team that had clinched the President's Trophy the previous season but faced elimination in the first playoff round.

Smejkal opened the scoring with a goal that found its way under Linus Ullmark's pads, and Chychrun followed up with another goal in less than 60 seconds. The Bruins only managed to score on a power-play goal by Zacha during the third period.

Zub's goal sealed the game with 1:48 left, and an effort by David Pastrnak to add another goal was negated due to a call by the officials.

The match also served as the last regular season broadcast for Bruins television play-by-play announcer, Jack Edwards. Edwards announced he would be retiring following the playoffs, concluding a 19-year tenure with the team.
