Jake Neighbours clinched the winning goal in the shootout as Jordan Binnington blocked all three attempts by the San Jose Sharks, leading to a 3-2 win for the St. Louis Blues. This victory broke their four-game losing streak at home.
Despite conceding a tying goal by Alexander Wennberg with just 8.8 seconds left in regulation, Binnington rebounded to achieve his 151st career win. This accomplishment matched Mike Liut's record within the franchise.
Wennberg contributed both goals for the Sharks, assisted by Mikael Granlund and Macklin Celebrini. For the Blues, Jordan Kyrou and Nathan Walker scored, with Walker's goal occurring merely 11 seconds into the match.
Askarov recorded 29 saves playing for San Jose, while Binnington secured the win with 22 saves.
The Sharks, despite netting a first-period goal for the third consecutive game, continue to face early challenges, being outscored 28-10 in the first period this season.
With 295 games played, Binnington is now second in franchise history. His 151 wins came 56 games faster compared to Liut, who had a 151-133 record with 52 ties during his 1979-1985 tenure.
Neighbours' wrist shot past Askarov on the glove side sealed the shootout win for the Blues.
Over their last seven games, the Blues have a 14-2 deficit in third-period scoring.
The Blues begin a seven-game road journey with an upcoming game against the New York Islanders on Saturday, while the Sharks start a four-game home series hosting Buffalo on the same day.
