Kyle Okposo has decided to retire following his Stanley Cup victory with the Florida Panthers, marking the conclusion of his 17-season career in the NHL.
Okposo, who previously served as captain for the Buffalo Sabres, started his professional journey with the New York Islanders after being selected seventh overall in the 2006 draft.
In over 1,000 regular-season games, he accumulated 242 goals and 372 assists. He also took part in the playoffs with both the Islanders and the Panthers, ultimately winning the Stanley Cup in his final season.
During the Panthers' championship celebration, team captain Aleksander Barkov handed the trophy to Sergei Bobrovsky, who then gave it to Okposo for a victory lap around the ice.
Looking back on his retirement, Okposo conveyed his appreciation for the opportunities hockey has given him and his excitement to continue supporting the sport's development.
