Montreal Canadiens News & Updates

In Montreal, Nick Suzuki was the hero of the night as he netted both the equalizer and the decisive goals during the second period, propelling the Montreal Canadiens to a 5-3 win against the Florida Panthers on a Tuesday evening.

Cole Caufield, Jake Evans, and Joel Armia were among the goal scorers for Montreal, contributing to the team's fourth victory in their recent five games.

The Panthers saw contributions from Aleksander Barkov, Sam Bennett, and Anton Lundell, but this wasn't enough to secure a win against Montreal, marking their first loss against them after three consecutive victories this season.

The match was notably intense, accumulating 66 penalty minutes, with 52 of those coming in the final period. Recent times have been challenging for Florida, as they've seen defeat in eight out of their last ten matches.

Missing from the line-up for the Panthers were key players Matthew Tkachuk due to illness and Carter Verhaeghe because of an upper body injury, along with defenseman Aaron Ekblad who sustained an injury late in the first period and did not return to the game.

Florida's Anton Lundell initially put his team ahead, but Joel Armia quickly answered back for Montreal. Barkov reclaimed the lead for Florida, only for Suzuki to level the scores early into the second period.

On a power play, Suzuki then put Montreal ahead, with Caufield and Evans later widening the gap in the third period. Despite late game tensions and a short-handed goal from Bennett that narrowed the Canadiens' lead, Montreal secured the win.

Next in their schedule, the Panthers are set to face Ottawa on Thursday, while the Canadiens will be hosting Tampa Bay the same night.
