Philadelphia Flyers News & Updates

The Tampa Bay Lightning has added Cam Atkinson, a free agent forward, to their roster with a one-year agreement valued at $900,000.

Atkinson became a free agent due to a contract buyout after the Philadelphia Flyers' season concluded in April. Initially, he was set to enter the final year of a seven-year deal worth $5.875 million annually. At 35 years old, Atkinson has been an All-Star twice and has achieved 20 or more goals in seven seasons.

During his first season with Philadelphia in 2021-22, Atkinson tallied 23 goals and accumulated 50 points over 73 games. He missed the subsequent season because of surgery for a herniated disk but made a comeback this past season, recording 13 goals and 28 points in 70 games.

Selected in the sixth round by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2008, Atkinson spent three years at Boston College, where he scored 68 goals and amassed 124 points. His college career highlights include winning the Frozen Four in 2010 and being a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award in 2011.
