The Tampa Bay Lightning has brought back Ryan McDonagh from the Nashville Predators through a trade deal involving a second-round pick in 2025, a seventh-round pick in 2024, and a fourth-round pick in 2024 from Edmonton.
Previously, McDonagh was traded to Nashville in 2022 as part of a strategy to manage salary cap constraints, despite playing a pivotal role in Tampa Bay's Stanley Cup victories in 2020 and 2021.
McDonagh was initially acquired by Tampa Bay from the New York Rangers in 2018, where he significantly bolstered the team's defense over four seasons.
At 34 years old, McDonagh is poised to bolster Tampa Bay's defense again, with two years left on his contract, especially after a season marred by injuries.
