Nick Paul netted a goal 3 minutes and 22 seconds into overtime, securing a 3-2 win for the Tampa Bay Lightning against the Nashville Predators. Brayden Point added a goal and an assist, and Mitchell Chaffee also made a scoring contribution.
In his return to Tampa Bay, Nashville's captain, Steven Stamkos, was greeted with a standing ovation. He assisted on both goals for the Predators, including the one that Gustav Nyquist scored to tie the game.
Lightning's goalie, Andrei Vasilevskiy, made 35 saves, while Juuse Saros blocked 24 shots for Nashville.
Despite conceding the initial two goals, the Predators took control during overtime, but Paul managed to clinch the victory for the Lightning.
The power play for Tampa Bay, once the top in the NHL, continued to struggle by not scoring in three attempts during this game.
A disputed offside decision against Nikita Kucherov prevented the Lightning from establishing a 3-0 lead early in the second period, which enabled Nashville to equalize the score.
The Predators excelled in penalty kills, successfully stopping all three Lightning power plays. This season, they have only allowed two goals during 29 opposition power-play opportunities.
Next up, the Predators will play host to Edmonton on Thursday, while the Lightning will travel to Colorado on Wednesday to kick off a four-game road trip.
