Philadelphia Flyers News & Updates

Owen Tippett kicked off the match by scoring in the first 19 seconds and also provided an assist, with Morgan Frost adding a goal and an assist of his own to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 4-3 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Additional scores were made by Travis Sanheim and Scott Laughton for the Flyers, who were without their team leader Sean Couturier due to injury. Goalkeeper Samuel Ersson stopped 27 shots, including a critical short-handed breakaway save against Bobby McCann.

In spite of coming off a stretch where they lost three out of four games, the Maple Leafs rallied in the third period with goals from William Nylander, Tyler Bertuzzi, and John Tavares.

Yet, thanks to Ersson's pivotal stops in the last 10 minutes and Laughton netting a goal with seven minutes remaining, the Flyers managed to clinch the win.

Toronto's goaltender Ilya Samsonov made 24 saves, which concluded their streak of earning points in three consecutive games.

Flyers' coach John Tortorella made the decision to bench Couturier following his voiced frustrations over his treatment after that morning's skate.

The Maple Leafs are set to visit Washington on Wednesday, and the Flyers will go up against Carolina on Thursday.
