Tom Wilson, a forward for the Washington Capitals, has decided against appealing the six-game suspension he received for his high-sticking incident involving Noah Gregor of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The decision to suspend Wilson came after his high stick hit Gregor, incurring a double-minor penalty during the game. Despite Wilson's insistence that he did not mean to strike Gregor's face, the NHL held him accountable for the perilous play, citing his history of disciplinary issues.
The Capitals had braced for a possibly longer suspension given Wilson's record of infractions, yet the six-game punishment was decided upon, taking into account his lack of prior stick-related offenses and the maximum limit for suspensions that can be appealed to a neutral arbitrator being six games or more.
This season, the NHLPA has contested several suspensions, though only one involved a punishment of six games or more, which was for David Perron of the Detroit Red Wings.
