Toronto Maple Leafs News & Updates

In Toronto's home opener, Mitch Marner contributed a goal and an assist as they triumphed over Pittsburgh with a score of 4-2. Craig Berube, the coach of the Maple Leafs, made his home debut following his hiring in May.

William Nylander found the net twice for Toronto, including an empty-net goal. Matthew Knies also scored, while Max Domi provided two assists. Anthony Stolarz successfully stopped 21 shots.

For Pittsburgh, Kris Letang and Rickard Rakell added goals. Joel Blomqvist made 29 saves, and Evgeni Malkin earned two assists, reaching a career total of 1,300 points.

Despite Toronto's power play struggles, going 0 for 9, they enhanced their record to 9-0-0 in their last nine home openers.

Nylander leveled the game at 1-1 in the second period, marking the first points this season for him, Auston Matthews, and Marner.

After Letang's goal, Pittsburgh missed out on three power-play opportunities.

By assisting on Letang's goal, Sidney Crosby became the 10th player in NHL history to accumulate 1,800 combined points across regular season and playoff games.

Toronto is set to face Los Angeles on Wednesday, while Pittsburgh will play against Montreal on Monday.
