The Utah Hockey Club defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2 in their first game of the season.
Dylan Guenther and Clayton Keller kicked off the scoring for Utah in the opening period. Guenther also scored an empty-net goal in the last minute, while Barrett Hayton added a goal and an assist. Lawson Crouse completed the scoring.
Chicago saw goals from Teuvo Teravainen and Nick Foligno, but their comeback attempt was insufficient.
Utah's penalty-kill unit performed well, successfully stopping three power-play opportunities.
Hayton's goal in the second period provided Utah with a needed advantage, which Guenther reinforced with his empty-net goal.
Keller has tallied eight career points in season openers, with four goals and four assists. He is the only Utah player to have reached a 30-goal season.
Chicago continues their road stretch with a game against Winnipeg on Friday, whereas Utah is set to play the New York Islanders on Thursday.
