Mikhail Sergachev was instrumental in leading the Utah Hockey Club to a 5-1 triumph over the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night. Sergachev contributed by scoring a goal and assisting in two more, while Connor Ingram made 30 saves in goal.
Alexander Kerfoot, Barrett Hayton, Maveric Lamoureux, and Clayton Keller also found the net for Utah, helping to break their four-game losing streak. Anthony Mantha scored the only goal for the Flames, marking their fourth consecutive defeat.
Early in the game, the Flames missed an opportunity to gain the upper hand despite having two power plays in the first period. Utah capitalized on their chances, establishing a 2-0 lead with goals from Kerfoot and Hayton.
Mantha narrowed the gap for the Flames early in the second period, but Lamoureux quickly restored Utah's two-goal cushion with a long shot just 17 seconds later.
Sergachev extended Utah's advantage to 4-1 with a late second-period goal during a 5-on-3 power play. Keller secured the win in the third period with an additional power play goal.
In reviewing the game, the Flames missed early scoring opportunities, which compounded their difficulties as Utah's offense gained momentum. Meanwhile, Utah bounced back from Monday's overtime loss with both a potent attack and improved defense.
The momentum shifted significantly when Lamoureux responded swiftly to Mantha’s goal, just 17 seconds afterward, to restore Utah's lead.
On a significant note, Mikael Backlund became the second player in Flames history to play 1,000 games with the franchise.
Looking ahead, the Flames are set to host New Jersey on Friday, while Utah will travel to Vegas on Saturday, beginning a four-game road trip.
