Nick Bjugstad's second goal in the game completed a quick succession of three goals for the Utah Hockey Club within two and a half minutes during the third period, leading to a 4-1 win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday evening.
Goals also came from Jack McBain and Mikhail Sergachev for Utah, who secured a home victory following a series of three losses on the road. Michael Kesselring contributed with two assists, and Karel Vejmelka achieved his first win in five games by making 49 saves.
Carolina's only goal was scored by Martin Necas. Pyotr Kochetkov conceded three goals from 18 shots before he was substituted. Spencer Martin saved two out of the three shots he encountered.
Vejmelka recorded 15 saves in the first period, 16 saves in the second, and 18 saves in the third.
McBain initiated the goal spree at 5:09 in the third period, with Bjugstad scoring just 17 seconds after Martin came into play.
Bjugstad opened the scoring for Utah with a goal two minutes and five seconds left in the first period, marking his first goal of the season and the 150th in his career. Necas tied the game with a power-play goal in the second period.
Despite taking 50 shots on goal, Carolina struggled to score, whereas Utah benefitted from a four-day rest after a tough away stretch.
A key moment occurred immediately following McBain's goal when Lawson Krause's attempt, initially called a goal, was overturned on review, setting up Sergachev's goal and Bjugstad's decisive goal.
Utah has managed an undefeated 5-0-2 record when scoring the first goal.
