Arizona Coyotes News & Updates

The NHL team in Utah is close to deciding on its official name.

The Smith Entertainment Group, which owns the upcoming team, has announced six possible nicknames: Utah Blizzard, Utah Hockey Club, Utah Mammoth, Utah Outlaws, Utah Venom, and Utah Yeti.

These options were chosen based on fan voting, with over half a million votes being cast. Voting will remain open to fans until June 20.

In their inaugural season, the team will wear jerseys labeled "UTAH" to emphasize their connection to the state and its fans. Once a name is selected, Smith Entertainment Group will proceed with developing a logo, mascot, and full branding for the 2025-26 season.

Smith Entertainment Group acquired the Arizona Coyotes, who were relocated to Utah in April. The NHL had purchased the franchise after efforts to find a suitable arena in Arizona failed, and subsequently sold it to Ryan Smith, who also owns the Utah Jazz.

For the time being, the Utah NHL team will play at Delta Arena, which is also the home venue for the Utah Jazz. Plans are in place to renovate the arena to better accommodate hockey games.
