In an outstanding performance, Casey DeSmith stopped 32 shots, steering the Vancouver Canucks to a 3-1 win against the Edmonton Oilers and reinforcing their lead in the Pacific Division.
Contributing to the victory, Sam Lafferty, Pius Suter, and Dakota Joshua each netted a goal for Vancouver, marking their fourth victory against the Oilers this season. With this win, the Canucks have extended their lead to five points ahead of Edmonton, which still harbors hope with three games in hand compared to Vancouver's two.
The Oilers' solo goal came from Evander Kane in a game that saw Connor McDavid absent for the third straight match due to a lower-body injury. Despite the 24 saves from Stuart Skinner, the Oilers' strategy to pull the goalie for an extra skater backfired, leading to Joshua sealing the win with an empty-net goal.
Additionally, Thatcher Demko was unable to rejoin the Canucks for the 14th consecutive game even though he was seen at the team's morning skate that day.
Looking ahead, Vancouver is set to play Calgary at home on Tuesday in what will be their last regular-season home game, whereas Edmonton will wrap up both their home and regular season schedule against San Jose on Monday.
