The Vegas Golden Knights are reevaluating their options due to Robin Lehner’s continued absence from the team.
Lehner has been on long-term injured reserve since undergoing hip surgery in 2022 and has not participated in any games for over two years. He has not attended the required medical checkups necessary to stay on LTIR.
Currently in the last year of his contract, Lehner's $4.4 million salary is under scrutiny. If he fails to report and his contract is terminated, the team's $5 million cap hit would be removed.
General manager Kelly McCrimmon stated that Lehner is still unfit to play and mentioned that both the NHL and NHLPA are working to determine the next steps. Future updates will be shared as the situation develops.
Lehner's initial acquisition in 2020 resulted in the departure of Marc-Andre Fleury, adding another layer of complexity to the situation.
Furthermore, Lehner and his wife have declared bankruptcy with their debts amounting to more than $27 million, compounding the difficulties they face.
