Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Robin Lehner is hopeful for a resolution after the team announced he had not reported for duty.
Last year, Lehner underwent hip surgery and has since been on long-term injured reserve. The management has kept his status under wraps, making his return this season uncertain.
Despite this, Lehner's medical checkup requirement ensures he stays on injured reserve. This status helps the Knights keep his salary out of the cap calculations while still ensuring he gets paid.
Lehner's contract, which offers a salary of $4.4 million, is set to expire this year. If he doesn’t report and the team ends his contract, the $5 million cap hit that was previously covered by injured reserve will be eliminated.
General manager Kelly McCrimmon has indicated that Lehner remains unfit to play. The NHL, NHLPA, and the club are collaborating on a resolution, with further updates to be shared when available.
