Jack Eichel, Nicolas Roy, and Pavel Dorofeyev each played a pivotal role with a goal and an assist apiece, and Chandler Stephenson highlighted the game with four assists as the Vegas Golden Knights overcame the Minnesota Wild with a convincing 7-2 win, ensuring their entry into the playoffs for the sixth time in seven years.
Goals were also netted by Jonathan Marchessault, Tomas Hertl, William Karlsson, and Keegan Kolesar for the Golden Knights. Contributions on the assists front came from Noah Hanifin, who registered two assists. Between the pipes, Logan Thompson stopped 25 shots.
The victory, combined with a loss for St. Louis against Carolina, secured Vegas a spot in the playoffs. They are currently positioned as the second wild card team in the Western Conference, trailing Los Angeles by a slim margin of one point.
This season marked the third in a row where Stephenson reached or surpassed the 50-point threshold. Additionally, Hertl's goal marked his first since joining the Golden Knights from San Jose.
On the opposing side, Marat Khusnutdinov and Ryan Hartman managed to score for the Wild, but it was a tough night for Marc-Andre Fleury who let in all seven goals from 30 shots faced.
The Golden Knights showcased their strength in special teams, with two of their goals coming from power plays and three goals astonishingly scored from their first three shots of the game.
Milestones were achieved by a number of players from the Wild, as Jonas Brodin celebrated his 800th career game, Matt Boldy his 200th, Marco Rossi his 100th, and Liam Ohgren made his debut in the NHL.
The upcoming schedule has the Wild gearing up against San Jose on Saturday, while the Golden Knights are set to welcome Colorado on Sunday.
