Wild Defeat Chicago 4-0, Kaprizov Nets Two Goals and Wallstedt Earns His First Shutout

Kirill Kaprizov contributed with two goals and an assist, propelling the Minnesota Wild to a resounding 4-0 win against the Chicago Blackhawks, with rookie Jesper Wallstedt achieving his inaugural NHL shutout by stopping 24 shots on Sunday.

Wallstedt, who had a tough debut allowing seven goals from 24 shots, showcased his skills in his second appearance. The Blackhawks faced their 13th shutout of the season, the most in the NHL.

Wallstedt, recently promoted from Iowa, expressed his amazement, particularly highlighting the last 15 seconds of the game as a culmination of his efforts since his time in Dallas.

This victory is crucial for Minnesota's playoff aspirations, taking their points tally to 83 with just five games left. They are currently 9 points behind the leading wild-card teams, Vegas and Nashville.

The Wild secured a significant lead in the second period, with Kaprizov opening the scoring on a power play, followed by Marco Rossi and Frederick Gaudreau adding their marks to the scoreboard.

Gaudreau praised Wallstedt for his performance, noting his poise and exceptional skill in making difficult saves.

Kaprizov’s second goal came in the last period, as Wallstedt comfortably dealt with Chicago's offense. Chicago's coach, Luke Richardson, admitted the Wild's superior energy and creativity.

Looking ahead, the Wild are set to face Colorado on Tuesday, while the Blackhawks will meet St. Louis on Wednesday in their upcoming games.
