Washington Capitals News & Updates

In a thrilling overtime finish, William Eklund scored just 39 seconds in, clinching a 2-1 win for the San Jose Sharks against the Washington Capitals and halting the Capitals' four-game winning streak.

Mackenzie Blackwood was pivotal with 27 saves, and Tyler Toffoli contributed with a first-period goal, aiding the Sharks in securing their third straight victory. Although Logan Thompson managed 29 saves and Nic Dowd found the net for the Capitals, they now stand at 4-2-1 following Alex Ovechkin's absence due to injury.

The Sharks demonstrated readiness right from the beginning, leading to Toffoli's early goal. The Capitals struggled to counter Blackwood’s remarkable performance in goal, resulting in their loss of offensive steam.

An important moment came at the end of the game when Macklin Celebrini received a four-minute penalty, giving the Sharks an opportunity for a power play in overtime, culminating in Eklund's decisive goal.

This win marks the eighth victory for the Sharks in Washington over the last eleven meetings. Looking ahead, the Sharks are set to face Tampa Bay on Thursday, while the Capitals will take on Toronto on Friday.
