Dylan Samberg found the net midway through the third period to aid the Winnipeg Jets in securing a 7-4 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Nikolaj Ehlers and Cole Perfetti added empty-net goals, boosting the Jets to the top of the NHL standings with 22 points.
Ehlers set a new record as the highest-scoring Danish player in NHL history with a total of 474 points. Additional goals for the Jets came from Alex Iafallo, Mark Scheifele, Logan Stanley, and Vladislav Namestnikov.
For the Lightning, goals were scored by Nikita Kucherov, Mitchell Chaffee, Brayden Point, and Brandon Hagel. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 26 shots for Winnipeg, while Jonas Johansson made 27 saves for Tampa Bay.
The Lightning showed resilience, with Kucherov contributing two points. Nonetheless, the Jets displayed strong determination, overcoming an early deficit and turning the game around in the second period.
A pivotal moment occurred when Logan Stanley delivered a bodycheck on Luke Glendening, triggering a fight with Zemgus Girgensons and leading to a power play goal for Winnipeg.
Winnipeg managed to outshoot Tampa Bay 34 to 30.
Looking ahead, Tampa Bay is set to face St. Louis on Tuesday, while the Jets will host Utah on the same day.
