Edmonton Oilers News & Updates

Zach Hyman and Leon Draisaitl spearheaded the Edmonton Oilers in securing a 5-1 triumph against the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday, achieving this feat even without the team's leading player, Connor McDavid.

Goals were also contributed by Cody Ceci, Mattias Ekholm, and Dylan Holloway for Edmonton, with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Ryan McLeod providing two assists each. Stuart Skinner was effective in goal, blocking 17 shots for the Oilers.

Hyman highlighted the team effort required in the absence of McDavid, stressing that it wasn't about one person filling those shoes but rather the whole team elevating their game.

The Golden Knights, facing their third consecutive loss, had their solitary goal scored by Keegan Kolesar. Goalkeeper Adin Hill was able to make 20 saves.

Kolesar expressed concern over the team's performance, emphasizing the need for improvement to secure a playoff position.

The Oilers' first goal came unexpectedly when Ceci’s attempt from an unfavorable angle ricocheted off the skate of Vegas defenseman Alec Martinez and beyond Hill. Ekholm extended the lead in the second period with a well-placed shot, followed by Hyman who capitalized on a rebound to further the lead.

In the third period, the Oilers' lead was fortified by Draisaitl's goal during a two-man advantage, set up by Nugent-Hopkins. The Golden Knights momentarily pierced Skinner's defense when Kolesar managed a short-handed goal during a breakaway.

Holloway's empty-netter rounded off the scoring, bringing the final tally to 5-1.

With this victory, the Oilers marked their 10th win in the last 11 home games and reached 100 points in the standings for the second occasion in the franchise's history.
