The Chicago Blackhawks have successfully secured defenseman Alex Vlasic on a lengthy six-year deal, marking a significant move in building their young team core.
This contract ensures Vlasic remains with the team until the end of the 2029-30 season, carrying a financial impact of $4.6 million against the salary cap. Vlasic's performance this season has solidified his position as a crucial top-four defenseman, demonstrating his growing value to the team.
Even in the face of a difficult season, the Blackhawks remain hopeful for a successful turnaround next year. They view Vlasic, along with other talented young players, as central to the team's future success.
Standing at 6'6" and aged just 22, Vlasic has impressed with his performance, recording two goals and 14 assists over 76 games. Only Seth Jones surpasses him in terms of time spent on the ice for the Blackhawks.
Vlasic is set to team up with Jones at the World Championships in the Czech Republic the following month. Since being drafted by Chicago in 2019, Vlasic has participated in 97 NHL games, scoring three goals and making 16 assists.
