Columbus Blue Jackets News & Updates

Zach Werenski had an impressive game, netting two goals and setting up another two, as Jet Greaves blocked 38 shots. This stellar performance by both players propelled the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 6-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. This game held little value for the Hurricanes who had already secured the second spot in the Metropolitan Division, leading them to rest eight of their starting players for the season's last game.

The Hurricanes concluded the season with a notable record of 52 wins, 23 losses, and 7 overtime losses, amassing a total of 111 points. This achievement ranked them second in the Eastern Conference, just behind the New York Rangers, as they now look forward to the playoffs.

In addition to Werenski's standout performance, Luca Del Bel Belluz found the back of the net during his first game in the NHL, with James Malatesta, Johnny Gaudreau, and Alex Nylander also contributing goals for Columbus. The Blue Jackets overcame a series of injuries to key players to finish their season on a high note.

On the Hurricanes' side, goals came from Teuvo Teravainen and Jesperi Kotkaniemi. Spencer Martin, in goal for the first time since February, managed to stop 19 shots. The team faced a moment of concern when Jesper Fast left the game following a hit from Erik Gudbranson.

Werenski's remarkable season also saw him setting a new team record for assists by a defenseman with a total of 45, besides reaching a personal milestone of 300 career points, elevating him into the ranks of sixth Columbus Blue Jackets player to achieve this feat.
